CRS (Rotherham) September 2003

Playing their third gig, Pineapple Thief got things underway on this pleasant Saturday evening.  Following their storming set at Whitchurch, PT opened with Kid Chameleon .  Frontman Bruce Soord controlled the show on guitar, sometimes joining Matt O'Leary for a two-man job on keys too.  We had nine songs including an encore, but the ones that stood out for me were Part Zero and Vapour Trails .

I don't think it will be too long before this band will move to bigger things, they are young and talented and very tight as a band, and it will take a few gigs before the word begins to spread.

This was another great performance by Pineapple Thief.

France (Crescendo) 2003

After a 9 hour drive in the trusty van, we made it down to Royan in France, where the Morisset family kindly looked after us for the weekend - although we have to say we suspect one family member to be the 'original' pineapple thief...  Still, regardless of this blatant, audacious thievery, we are forever indebted to the Morissets for keeping us alive and plied with wine - and of course to David for organising Pineapple Thief to play at the wonderful Crescendo (5th) festival.

The orginal pineapple thief?

Jon Sykes (bass)

We played just as it was getting dusk - the place was filling up.  Kicking off with Kid Chameleon, Wayne had a bit of a problem with his ebow. All it made was a crackle, which Wayne blamed on his guitar.  Yeh, right Mr Higgins.  He was severely beaten by the band after the show.  He has now promised never to make the same mistake again.

Despite the balls up, the crowd loved the track. It was always uncertain whether the crowd would warm to the newer sound of progressive, forward thinking rock, but any doubts were quickly dispelled.

Wayne Higgins (guitars)

Keith Harrison (drums)

The set continued with Preserve, Keep Dreaming (complete with bazaar first bar where we were all listening to different songs it seems), MD One, Part Zero, Sooner or Later, Unspoken, 137 and finally Subside.

After a nice encore, the band return with a version of 'Vapour Trails' although there were more technical mishaps when the outro failed to trigger. Still, it was a great gig and the crowd seemed to forgive the band their mild failings. There was a great reaction after the show and the band spent the rest of the weekend chilling out on the beach.

This guy came to Whitchurch AND France (well, he was on holiday in the area and dragged his unsuspecting family to the gig). Cheers mate

Thanks to David Morisset for getting Pineapple Thief on the bill

And a BIG thank you to the Morisset family (pictured above with the Pineapple crew) for their wonderful hospitality
